The Opportunity

  • AEP Hawaii is placing a Water Resources Civil Engineer with one of our established Hawaii engineering clients. You will work on stormwater, water supply, wastewater, and coastal hydraulics projects across Oahu and the neighbor islands. This is a strong mid-career seat with direct project ownership and a clear path to Hawaii PE licensure support. Ideal for an engineer who wants to grow deep technical water resources expertise in one of the most dynamic hydrologic environments in the country.

Responsibilities

  • Hydrologic & Hydraulic Modeling: Build and calibrate models for stormwater (SWMM, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS), water supply, and coastal systems.
  • Design: Develop drainage design, detention and retention basins, water and sewer utility extensions, and erosion and sediment control plans.
  • Permitting: Support SMA, NPDES, and county drainage permit applications.
  • Field Work: Conduct site assessments, stream surveys, and construction observation.
  • Client Support: Draft technical memos, attend client and agency meetings, and translate technical findings into plain-language recommendations.
  • Collaboration: Work alongside structural, geotechnical, and civil site teams to deliver integrated design packages.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (water resources focus preferred).
  • 5-10 years of civil engineering with a strong water resources emphasis.
  • EIT required. Hawaii PE a strong plus, or actively pursuing PE.
  • Proficiency in HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, SWMM, or similar. AutoCAD Civil 3D a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Hawaii drainage, SMA, and NPDES permitting.
  • Hawaii-based or willing to relocate. Kama'aina come-home prioritized.
