The Opportunity

• AEP Hawaii is placing a Senior or Staff Software Engineer with a Series C client at the scaling stage where craft, leverage, and systems thinking compound. This is a seat for an engineer who can ship, lead through influence, and raise the bar for teams around them. Title calibrates to experience. Compensation matches the market for top talent at scaling venture-backed companies.

Responsibilities

• Technical Leadership: Own major product surfaces or systems end-to-end.
• Architecture: Drive design decisions with long-term implications.
• Mentorship: Level up mid-level engineers through code review, pairing, and teaching.
• Cross-Functional Partnership: Work directly with product, design, and customer teams.
• Operational Excellence: Build and maintain systems that scale humanely.
• Hiring: Participate in hiring loops and help shape the engineering culture.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering. Scaling startup or enterprise experience.
• Strong fundamentals in distributed systems, databases, and cloud architecture.
• Fluent in at least two of: TypeScript, Go, Python, Rust, Java.
• Track record of shipping at scale and mentoring others.
• Strong written communication. You document decisions so others can act on them.
• US-based, authorized to work.
